Not Dampened By the Rain this Group Skates On! Level 1, London, UK

The ICP Level 1 Instructor Certification Course which took place this weekend in London welcomed skaters from as far away as Croatia and all over the UK (Worcester, Camberley, Nottingham, Manchester, Glasgow, and London).

The weather once again played a staring role with all day drizzle on Saturday pushing us under cover at Westway Sports Centre. However Sunday redeemed itself with glorious blue skies and some proper heat! We even had a huge audience on the steps of the Albert Memorial watching the skating skills exams, which made this portion of the program even more intense!

Students came from different skating disciplines including hockey, aggressive, slalom, artistic, speed and street skating.  Each skater bringing a different set of experience and knowledge. Given many of the skaters were self taught, breaking bad habits became a common theme throughout the weekend.  

It was interesting to watch how working through the progressions for each skill not only helped the candidates grasp the complexities of teaching rank beginners, but also helped increase their own body awareness as well.  The skating just got better and better as the weekend went on!

As always, the weekend was intense and long but full of fun and learning!
